Deep Tissue Techniques for the Back: Body Mechanics and Depth Control
As massage therapists, our bodies are our most valuable tools—but too often, we sacrifice our own physical well-being to provide deep, effective relief for our clients. Muscle fatigue, joint strain, and eventual burnout are unfortunate realities for many in our field. It doesn’t have to be this way.
DEEPFLOW is a specialized CEU course designed to completely transform how you deliver pressure. By prioritizing refined technique instead of relying on brute strength or sheer physical force, you will learn how to work smarter, not harder.
This class focuses on the biomechanics of massage, teaching you how to strategically harness gravity, leverage, and your own body weight to achieve profound depth without the strain. By mastering these methods, you will protect your joints, preserve your daily energy, and ultimately prolong your career—all while delivering a deeply satisfying experience for your clients.
What You Will Learn
- The Mechanics of Pressure: How to use stance, vertical alignment, and weight transfer to generate deep pressure without straining hands, wrists, or shoulders.
- Layer-by-Layer Progression: Step-by-step technique application from the superficial fascia to deep paravertebral muscles.
- Targeted Anatomy: Specific techniques for the posterior body, covering the cervical paraspinals, trapezius, rhomboids, supraspinatus, erector spinae, thoracolumbar fascia, and quadratus lumborum.
- Palpation and Tissue Response: Reading tissue quality in real-time to determine exactly when to sink, hold, or release pressure based on the client's physical feedback.
- Integration: Combining these mechanics into a continuous, cohesive posterior session flow.
This course is designed for Licensed Massage Therapists seeking to perform effective deep tissue massage without compromising their own physical health. This course provides the mechanical foundation necessary for a long, injury-free career. (A working knowledge of basic massage technique and anatomy is required.)

Student Preparation & Requirements
- Finger nails must be kept short and smooth (no long or sharp nails).
This is an intensive training session where over 90% of the curriculum is focused on hands-on techniques. Please come prepared to practice and engage actively throughout each day.
